Hawthorn defender James Sicily says enjoying his football will improve his ability to keep his emotions in check.
Sicily has become a target of opposition clubs due the volatile and aggressive nature in which he plays his football.
While not wanting to change who he is, the 24-year-old admits he needs to manage his emotions to help rid his game of undisciplined acts.
“It’s something that I’ve been working on for a bit of time now,” Sicily told SEN’s Time On.
“Over the last year and a half I’ve put a bit of time into it, but that’s probably the one thing that’s holding me back or the one thing that people really talk about.
“Whenever they hear my name they’ll think of my temperament and the way I went about things. I’m not looking to change a whole lot, but maybe just start to enjoy it a bit more and not come across as so serious.
“I’m just going to try and be the best person that I can be. I’ll still put time into managing my emotions and making sure I’m not letting the team down.”
Sicily was having a superb 2018 campaign before a wrist injury halted his charge towards All-Australia selection.
Hawthorn take on Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval in Round 1 on March 23.
