Collingwood midfielder Adam Treloar has given some insight into Collingwood’s starting midfield for 2019, saying he expects everyone to have a secondary role they need to embrace.
With the addition of Dayne Beams, the Pies have a threatening midfield group going into 2019, but one they’ll need to figure out how to balance.
Treloar gave his take on who will be starting in the midfield come the first bounce in Round 1.
“The starting four – okay so, we’ll have Brodie (Grundy) in the ruck,” he said on SEN Breakfast.
“I think we’ll have Taylor (Adams) in there, he’s a big bull, probably one of the best contested ball players in the game.
“We’ll have Scott Pendlebury, obviously being a champion for us for the last 10 years and I’d say we’d have someone like Dayne Beams in there.
“There’s plenty of room for me to come off the bench or sit in the forward line and then come through the midfield.
“(Brayden Sier) is the exact same starting in a different position, Steele (Sidebottom) as well.”
Treloar expects to spend quite a bit of time up forward in 2019.
“We have players who play multiple positions and the prime example was Jordan de Goey who was predominantly a midfielder who we put forward and absolutely dominated,” Treloar said.
“I think you’ll see a lot of the players you expect to see in the midfield to hone skills in other areas. Whether it’s up forward, outside, down back, we don’t want to be one-dimensional.
“I’ll play wherever they want me to play. We need to embrace our secondary role. Mine is going to be a high-half forward or a deep forward, the way de Goey did last year.”
