Nick Riewoldt names the top 10 key forwards in the competition

2019-02-25T09:16+11:00

If anyone is qualified to rate the top 10 key forwards in the AFL, it’s Nick Riewoldt, however he has put together quite the controversial list!

The St Kilda great kicked 718 goals and played 336 games across a storied career that culminated in his retirement in 2017.

Riewoldt explained this top 10 on SEN Breakfast, saying this will be the top 10 key forwards at the conclusion of the 2019 season.

See his rankings below.

10. Tom McDonald - Melbourne

Goals kicked in 2018: 53

“He’s a player who this time last year wouldn’t have been on the list because he was a centre half back, but he had a great last half to the season. I think he’s going to thrive being the main man. It’s different when you’re a swingman."

9. Ben Brown - North Melbourne

Goals kicked in 2018: 61

8. Jordan de Goey - Collingwood

Goals kicked in 2018: 48

“He plays like a key forward. He’s not a traditional one or key forward size, but he plays like a key forward so he’s in there.”

7. Jeremy Cameron - GWS

Goals kicked in 2018: 46

6. Jesse Hogan - Fremantle

Goals kicked in 2018: 47

“I’m looking forward. I think he’ll be the sixth best key forward this year. He didn’t look happy his last few at Melbourne. He’s gone home, he’ll fit in beautifully over there. They’ll structure the game-plan around him.”

4. Tom Lynch - Richmond

Goals kicked in 2018: 20

“These are my tiers ones. I’ve actually separated these four.”

3. Jack Riewoldt - Richmond

Goals kicked in 2018: 70

2. Josh Kennedy - West Coast

Goals kicked in 2018: 43

1. Lance Franklin - Sydney

Goals kicked in 2018: 57

“If he played in a bygone era, he would’ve kicked 1300 goals by now. He’s still the best forward in the game comfortably.”
