“I don’t get it": Wallace perplexed at how Cats made AFLW finals

2019-03-18T18:00+11:00

Australian Football Hall of Famer Terry Wallace is perplexed as to how Geelong qualified for the AFLW finals series.

The Cats finished second in Conference B with just three wins and a percentage of 65.5 – the worst of any of the 10 competing clubs.

North Melbourne and Melbourne both missed the finals from Conference A with five wins and four wins respectively.

Wallace was once again highly critical of the controversial two-conference system.

“Can you explain to me how a team (Geelong) that wins three games and has the worst percentage of any of the 10 clubs is playing finals?” he said on SEN’s KB and The Doc.

“They’ve won three of their seven games, they finished with a percentage of 65 – which was the worst of any side in any conference.

“You have North Melbourne who won five games and finished 58 percent higher playing in a more difficult conference.

“In my opinion, and I mentioned this from Round 1 onwards, I think Geelong are about the number seven seed and they’re in the finals – I don’t get it.”

Paul Hood’s side travel to Adelaide to face the red-hot Crows on Sunday at 12:40 (ACDT) for a spot in the AFLW Grand Final.

Carlton take on Fremantle in the other preliminary final on Saturday at Ikon Park from 2.45pm AEDT.
