Brisbane utility Brandon Starcevich has undergone surgery on an injured hamstring and is set to be sidelined for the next two months.
Starcevich, 19, suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Lions’ pre-season match against VFL side Casey.
In his debut season in 2018, Starcevich played the final four games and was pushing for Round 1 selection.
“It’s a real shame for Starce because he had such a great pre-season,” Brisbane’s GM of Football David Noble told lions.com.au.
“After some further investigation by our medical team the injury turned out to be worse than first thought, so we sent him down to Melbourne for surgery.”
The West Australian joins recruit Marcus Adams (knee) and defender Jack Payne (shin) on the club’s injury list.
Chris Fagan’s men face reigning premiers West Coast at the Gabba on Saturday night.
