Troubled Docker Bennell embroiled in police investigation: McClure

2019-03-20T19:25+11:00

Fremantle’s Harley Bennell has been embroiled in a police investigation after his involvement in a physical altercation with a bikie known to Western Australian police, according to SEN Time On host Sam McClure.

“It was in JLT2 in Mandurah when West Coast were playing Fremantle," McClure told SEN's Time On.

"Harley Bennell was watching on in the crowd, a discussion took place with a few men, one of whom was known to Bennell, but also known to Western Australian police and the organised crime squad.

“He is a bikie with the Coffin Cheaters motorcycle gang. This discussion, for whatever reason, has then turned physical and security intervened and offered to walk and escort Harley Bennell back to his car.

“This man at the centre of it is part of a broader investigation by the Western Australian organised crime squad. There’s no suggestion that Harley, in this particular incident, has done anything wrong. The AFL and Fremantle are both aware of the situation.

“The investigation is not into Harley, but he has now been embroiled and is at the centre of a broader investigation into the man he was having a conversation with and had a physical altercation with.

“What this altercation was about remains unknown, but the man is both known to police and to Harley himself.”

This latest incident comes after star recruit Jesse Hogan was stood down by the club to deal with clinical anxiety after missing a training session last Sunday due to "poor choices around alcohol consumption".
