What Jones wants to see from Melbourne

2019-03-29T08:42+11:00

Melbourne co-captain Nathan Jones has guaranteed supporters a much more physical performance this weekend.

The Demons were disappointing in their season opener against Port Adelaide at the MCG last Saturday, going down to the Power by 26 points.

Tomorrow night, the Dees head down the highway to take on Geelong at GMHBA Stadium and Jones has highlighted what he and his teammates must produce in order to recoil from last week’s defeat.

“I’d like to see us bring a greater consistency of effort and get back some of our physicality around the contest,” he said on SEN Breakfast.

“That’s what resembled us last year, particularly around that midfield group.

“The consistency of effort and the consistency of our physicality and our hardness around the ball.

“We’ve got to get that back, we’ve got to compete harder for longer and that’s been part of the review this week.

“Finding the spark and the joy in performing and being up and willing to grind out a performance.”

Simon Goodwin’s side have welcomed off-season recruits Steven May, Kade Kolodjashnij and VFL star Jay Lockhart in for the Cats clash with Charlie Spargo, Corey Wagner and Marty Hore making way.
