Emerging Lions edge out Roos to claim second win of the season

2019-03-31T16:15+11:00

Brisbane has scraped through for a 20-point win over North Melbourne in a seesawing contest at Marvel Stadium.

The Kangaroos led at quarter time and half time, but it was the Lions who put the foot on the accelerator to kick eight final-term goals to secure back-to-back victories to start the season.

Here’s everything you need to know!

The Talking Point: Emerging Lions take another step in their development

The Kangaroos led at every change in this game, but the young Lions side never gave up in this contest.

At three-quarter time, they were down by just four points, and managed to keep fighting despite North kicking three quick goals to kick-start the fourth term.

Forward Charlie Cameron then worked his magic, kicking two goals in the dying minutes to seal the win for a new-look resilient Lions outfit.

The Star: Lachie Neale

Lachie Neale looks right at home in his new colours, setting a new career-high record for disposals.

The midfielder collected 43 touches in the win to go with his 16 contested possessions, eight clearances, six tackles and 28 pressure acts.

The Difference: Oscar McInerney gets Lions back into game

Brisbane forward Oscar McInerney got the Lions back within striking distance with a massive third quarter.

The 24-year-old kicked 2.1, took six marks (including four contested) and collected 12 disposals in a game-changing term.   The Young Gun: Luke Davies-Uniacke

North Melbourne's 2017 top draft pick appears to be finding his feet in the AFL, gathering 26 disposals, five marks and five clearances in the loss.

The Kangaroos have already had a Rising Star nominee this season with Bailey Scott getting the nod last week, and Davies-Uniacke could follow suit.

What’s next?

North Melbourne take on the Hawks at the MCG on Sunday, hoping to record their first win of the season. Brisbane return home to the Gabba to take on Port Adelaide, who have also started the season with two wins.
