1377 SEN+ to rebrand as 1377 WINX+ for Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day

2019-04-08T09:45+10:00

TO celebrate Australia’s favourite super horse Winx’s anticipated final race on Saturday, 1377 SEN+ will be rebranded 1377 Winx+ for a special whole-day takeover at The Championships Day 2 - Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse.

1377 Winx+ will be completely dedicated to celebrating the illustrious career of Australia’s champion thoroughbred with a host of interviews, insights and live raceday commentary of all races from The Championships.

With the support of Racing NSW, the entire raceday will be broadcast into Melbourne on the wider SEN platform.

In a major coup, SEN Chief Sports Caller, Gerard Whateley and racing expert David Gately will co-host proceedings on 1377 Winx+ from 11am this Saturday, while a special two hour commemorative show “Celebrating Winx” will air from 9am.

Winx looks likely to defend her Queen Elizabeth Stakes title, extending her undefeated winning streak to 33 which will cement her as arguably the greatest middle distance horse of all time.

Whateley’s call of The Queen Elizabeth Stakes will be uniquely broadcast live on both 1377 SEN+ and 1116 SEN while the entire raceday will be available via the 1377 Winx+ tile on the SEN APP.

Whateley, a self confessed racing tragic who penned the 2012 novel, ‘Black Caviar’ and has previously called at the UK’s prestigious Royal Ascot – described his excitement to headline the 1377 Winx+ coverage.

“Given the likelihood that this is the farewell appearance of Winx, it shapes as one of the most momentous days in the history of Australian sport,” Whateley said.

“One last chance to savour a living legend mixed with the often fraught notion of one more contest to be won.

“Understanding her place in the record books and what Winx has come to mean to a proud nation whatever transpires in the 2019 Queen Elizabeth Stakes will be an instant part of sporting lore and we'll take you right to the heart of it all at Royal Randwick,” Whateley ended.

Racing NSW CEO Peter V'landys AM said he was delighted to bring one of the state’s premier racing events to a wider audience across Australia.

“In particular we are very excited to work with a new age dynamic media company that goes above and beyond for their listeners,” he said.

“Having Gerard Whateley live from Randwick will only build the legend and history that is Winx.

“Gerard is one of those people with a rare talent that can make the hairs raise on the back of your neck with his commentary and insight,” V’landys ended.

Crocmedia Chief Executive Craig Hutchison thanked Racing NSW for making the entire raceday available for race fans in Victoria.

“Winx is loved all over the country and here in Melbourne fans not fortunate enough to go can experience the magic of a great celebration of a stunning racing story,” Hutchison said.

“We thank Racing NSW for their sense of occasion and cooperation and urge fans to head to Sydney and catch a piece of history. And we’ll be here, on 1377 Winx+ and the SEN APP more broadly for those that can’t.

“We can think of no better Australian sports star to make history and have its own radio station for a day than our Winx. We can’t wait for 1377 Winx+ day on Saturday April 13.”
