Why Martin shouldn’t be banned for offensive gesture: Dal Santo

2019-04-08T13:33+10:00

Nick Dal Santo believes Richmond star Dustin Martin should avoid a suspension for his offensive gesture towards GWS veteran Shane Mumford.

Martin was caught raising his middle finger at the Giants ruckman before making a snorting gesture which is certain to be scrutinised by the Match Review Officer.

A fine would be a suitable punishment for the 2017 Brownlow Medallist, according to Dal Santo

“No, he shouldn’t be suspended,” he told SEN Afternoons.

“I think the standard which has been set over previous years is when you give the finger and make a gesture like he did on the weekend, it would be a fine.

“Maybe a little please explain and don’t do it again.”

However, the former St Kilda and North Melbourne star says Martin should be banned for his off-the-ball elbow on a Giants player.

“I think he deserves to be suspended for the elbow 60 metres from the football,” Dal Santo said.

Martin was fined $2000 for his handcuffs gesture in Richmond’s Elimination Final loss to North Melbourne in 2015.
