Collingwood AFLW captain re-signs for 2020, two youngsters depart club

2019-04-09T17:26+10:00

Collingwood captain Steph Chiocci is one of seven players to re-sign with the club for the 2020 AFLW season.

Chiocci joins Sarah Dargan, Brittany Bonnici, Erica Fowler, Sophie Alexander, Ruby Schleicher and Eliza Hynes as players to re-commit to the club.

The Pies will however lose Darcy Guttridge and Iilish Ross, who have told the club they wish to move on.

Guttridge was a high draft pick back in 2017, the fifth Victorian selected after Isabel Huntington (Bulldogs), Chloe Molloy (Collingwood), Monique Conti (Bulldogs) and Eden Zanker (Melbourne). Highlighting the quality of the draft, the next two Victorians taken were Jenna Bruton (Bulldogs) and Georgia Gee (Carlton).

The versatile youngster missed her first year with the Pies after breaking her collarbone in the lead-up to the 2018 season, but debuted against Carlton this year.

Ross has played down back for the Pies over the last two seasons, managing six games this year.

Collingwood only won the one game this year after losing eight of their top 10 from their 2018 best and fairest.

They have opted to move on from coach Wayne Siekman, electing not to renew his contract.
