Bombers footy manager baffled by Daniher non-story making headlines

2019-04-12T10:40+10:00

Essendon’s decision to let Joe Daniher have a beer has received plenty of traction, which football manager Dan Richardson is surprised by.

Daniher is recovering from a calf injury and enjoyed a few beers with friends, which the club was fine with.

Richardson was unsure about how this non-issue even made the news.

“I guess it’s just a sign of the times,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“High profile players, there’s not a lot that they can do these days without somebody taking notice of it.

“We’re very comfortable with Joe.

“He’s back in training, he had one or two beers on the weekend and you’re right, how on earth that makes it into the papers is beyond me.

"But the reality is that’s sometimes the world of AFL footy these days.”

The Bombers football manager also gave an update on Daniher, who he says is progressing well.

“Joe’s back in full training,” Richardson added.

“He has been for about a week or so.

“He seems to have fully recovered from the calf injury.

“It’s really just more training and conditioning.

“Over the next few weeks, he’ll build his training up and hopefully we’ll see him not too far away.”

The Bombers will be aiming for back-to-back wins when they host the Lions on Saturday at the MCG.
