Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is set to become the highest paid player in NFL history.
Wilson and the Seahawks have been locked in four days of intense contract discussions, with the 30-year-old signing a four-year $140 million extension.
All up, $107 million of the contract is guaranteed, it features a $65 million signing bonus and a no-trade clause.
This surpasses Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ $134 million deal from last year.
Wilson is one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in the game and was a part of Seattle’s 43-8 Super Bowl win over Denver in 2014.
Rumours circled that the New York Giants were set to target Wilson as ageing quarterback Eli Manning’s replacement.
