Team whispers: Brownlow Medallists set to return, Blues receive big boost

2019-04-17T08:56+10:00

See all the latest team news and whispers heading into Round 4 below!

Collingwood v Brisbane

Dayne Beams is expected to be available to take on the team he captained this time last year after missing last Friday with illness.

He’ll replace Chris Mayne who will miss at least two weeks with a back fracture.

The Lions don’t have any injury issues to worry about and will likely have no forced changes.

North Melbourne v Essendon

Luke McDonald didn’t beat his one-match striking charge and will miss Good Friday. Sam Wright seems the logical replacement for him.

It’s hard to see Essendon messing with a winning formula this week, but they’ll be glancing forward to Anzac Day next Thursday, a six-day break between games.

West Coast v Port Adelaide

Lewis Jetta should return for the Eagles after being a late withdrawal last week with hamstring tightness. Josh Rotham would be the unlucky man to miss out.

Todd Marshall kicked four in the SANFL and could be in line for a recall for the Power.

GWS v Fremantle

Nathan Fyfe still has to pass another concussion test, but given the 13 days since the ugly collision against St Kilda, he’s expected to be available to take on GWS on Saturday.

Joel Hamling (concussion) is in doubt to miss out, with Brennan Cox the likely replacement.

GWS will be hoping Toby Greene will be fit for this one after missing three games with a calf injury.

Callan Ward will of course miss after tearing his ACL against Geelong.

Melbourne v St Kilda

Neville Jetta (knee) and Jordan Lewis (hamstring) are chances to return this week, the former a late withdrawal last week.

Oscar McDonald is right to go after clearing the concussion protocol.

St Kilda could get a significant boost in the form of captain Jarryn Geary, who missed last week with a virus, and gun midfielder Jack Steven.

Richmond v Sydney

Dustin Martin and Bachar Houli are back and ready to give the Tigers a significant boost.

Two players would be unlucky to be left out after last week’s win but expect Connor Menadue to be one of the players making way.

Sydney could unveil a draftee with James Rowbottom continuing to impress in the NEAFL. He kicked three goals and gathered 28 disposals.

Western Bulldogs v Carlton

Lin Jong made his VFL return after a hamstring strain on the weekend and looked good. He could replace a quiet Billy Gowers in the side.

Carlton will be boosted by Matthew Kreuzer’s return after he got through a VFL hit out last weekend.

Will Setterfield will miss two weeks with suspension and Matthew Kennedy seems the logical replacement assuming he’s over a corked quad.

Adelaide v Gold Coast

Hugh Greenwood has earned a recall, gathering 33 disposals and kicking two goals in the SANFL, while surely Bryce Gibbs can’t miss again after Adelaide’s poor performance on the weekend.

The Suns will likely be without Will Powell who was concussed on the weekend, with George Horlin-Smith the likely replacement.

Hawthorn v Geelong

Jaeger O’Meara told SEN Breakfast he’s essentially right to go for Easter Monday, however James Frawley will miss with a hamstring.

Captain Ben Stratton should play after he was concussed last weekend.

Kaiden Brand would be the likely replacement for Frawley if the Hawks want a like-for-like.

Zach Tuohy is still in a race to play his first game of the year for the Cats after a knee injury and it’s unclear whether he’ll be right to go.
