Blues' VFL side pulls off thrilling upset over Collingwood

2019-04-20T16:48+10:00

Carlton’s VFL side has pulled off a huge upset, defeating Collingwood in a last-second thriller at Victoria Park.

Trailing all day, the Northern Blues kicked three of the last four to overrun the Pies and pick up their second straight tight win.

Young key forward Patrick Kerr was the hero for Northern, kicking the winner as well as booting two others and taking seven marks.

Matthew Kennedy gathered 22 disposals, Liam Stocker 19 and young defender Tom Williamson gathered 13 in his first game back in nearly a year.

Williamson's 2018 was ended almost immediately thanks to back issues, but the rebounding defender showed great promise the year before, winning Carlton's best first year player award.

For the Pies, Rupert Wills picked up 32 disposals, Levi Greenwood 24, Tim Broomhead kicked three and Daniel Wells two in his second game for the season.

Harrison Macreadie (13 disposals and six marks) and Matthew Cottrell (eight disposals) played their first games for the year for the Blues as well.

It's their second straight win after knocking off the Cats in Geelong last week.
