Buddy continues to make history, but Tigers continue winning ways

2019-04-20T21:53+10:00

Richmond has picked up their third win of the year, proving too strong for Sydney at Marvel Stadium.

The Tigers will be buoyed by Dustin Martin’s return to form, while Josh Caddy and Bachar Houli being back in the side has helped straighten them up at both ends of the ground.

They killed the Swans on turnovers all night, kicking the vast majority of their score from them, while Sydney struggled to hit the scoreboard altogether.

The story of the night was Lance Franklin however, who continues to make history.

Here’s everything you need to know!

The Moment: Buddy continues to climb the ranks

Lance Franklin has climbed to seventh in the all-time goal kicking leaderboard and is only 73 away from the magical 1000 mark.

He passed Matthew Lloyd, kicking his 927th goal in the third quarter, snapping it from a set-shot.

Buddy seems likely to become the sixth player to kick 1000 goals by the end of his career.

Watch the goal below.

The Star: Dustin Martin

After a year marred with suspension and what seemed to be a lack of confidence, Dustin Martin is back.

He had a week off to clear his head, but returned with three goals, including one right before three quarter time that seemed to ice the game for Richmond.

Martin was his dominant best, picking up 25 touches, nine score involvements, four marks inside 50, five clearances and eight inside 50s.

What’s next?

Richmond has a four-day turnaround before facing Melbourne on Anzac Day eve. There’s no time for the Tigers to reflect on this win and they take on a side performing well below their expected standard. Anything is possible on Wednesday night.

Sydney meanwhile prepare for a battle with their crosstown rivals in GWS at the SCG, where they’ve had quite a poor record in recent times. The Swans sit 15th on the ladder with one win and need to turn things around against the Giants.
