Giants lose second skipper to injury in stunning loss to Fremantle

2019-04-20T16:29+10:00

GWS skipper Phil Davis has suffered an ankle injury in his side’s 24-point loss to Fremantle in the nation’s capital.

Davis limped from the field in the fourth quarter after a marking contest where he clearly rolled his ankle.

It would be a huge loss for the side, after fellow captain Callan Ward tore his ACL last week.

Fremantle dealt a blow to tipsters everywhere, leading for most of the day and kicking away late to upset the Giants.

The win breaks nine victories in a row for GWS in Canberra.

Brandon Matera, Jesse Hogan and Michael Walters combined for 10 goals, while Nathan Fyfe’s 31-disposal performance was brilliant.

The win sees Fremantle sitting second on the ladder with three wins, with the Western Bulldogs at home next weekend.

The Giants meanwhile take on crosstown rivals Sydney and may be without both captains.
