Port prepared for fired-up North

2019-04-24T11:00+10:00

Ken Hinkley insists Port Adelaide won't be taking North Melbourne lightly in Friday night's Round 6 clash at the Adelaide Oval.

The Kangaroos have been hugely disappointing in 2019, winning just the one game to sit at the bottom of the AFL ladder.

Brad Scott's side heads across the border after being embarrassed by Essendon on Good Friday – its biggest game of the year – where they were thrashed by 58 points in front of 48,000 fans.

Following the heavy loss, an Easter Sunday meeting involving the club's on and off-field leaders was held.

Plenty of Roos fans are fed up, and many believe Scott can't take the group any further.

Having been in the gun all week, Hinkley expects North to come out breathing fire.

"Anytime a side gets put under the blowtorch a bit, we tend to respond and we tend to react; it's just pride, you want to bounce back and represent your team well," Hinkley told SEN SA Breakfast.

"They're a high-quality team, they haven’t had the start they would have wanted, but I'm sure Brad and the boys over there are working towards trying to turn that around very quickly; we just don't want them to do that this Friday night at Adelaide Oval.

"Our responsibility is to turn up and play the same style of football that we've played, I think, reasonably consistently for the first five weeks of the season."

Port will be looking for its fourth win of the year and to build on its sensational win over West Coast in Perth last week.

Played in driving rain, the Power caused a huge upset, knocking off the reigning premiers by 42 points.

"It was big performance by everyone involved; all the coaches, all the players, to come away with a great victory," Hinkley said.

"Our rivalry or our performances against each other have been quite close, so we had a bit of belief in what we could do.

"You don't want to get carried away with one performance or one game because we know how hard the season is."
