Collingwood secures former Boomer

2019-05-03T11:45+10:00

Collingwood has secured the signature of former Sydney Kings point guard Tom Wilson, with the 21-year-old joining the Magpies on a three-year deal.

Geelong was also in the race for Wilson, but he decided to side with the Pies after meeting with both clubs.

He also met with Hawthorn, who made a late bid for the former basketballer.

The former Boomer will join Collingwood as a category B rookie, which is a rule that allows athletes from other sports to join a club outside the draft.

Wilson decided that he would make the move to AFL just weeks after he made his debut for the Australian Boomers.

AFL National Talent and International Talent Manager Kevin Sheehan told SEN Breakfast that he rated Wilson highly while he played for Vic Metro as a 16-year-old.

“He played in our under-16s probably six years ago now and we picked him in the best 30 kids in Australia… but look he’s probably in the best 10 or a dozen,” he said.

Wilson, a Collingwood fan, is capable of playing as a midfielder on in flanking positions.
