Could this change in format revive struggling Footy Show?

2019-05-07T10:19+10:00

Channel Nine's The Footy Show continues to struggle after hitting an all-time ratings low.

The new-look version of the show only mustered 53,000 viewers last Thursday with 278,000 people watching Channel Seven's The Front Bar.

Herald Sun's TV writer Colin Vickery labelled the show’s decline as “terminal” with its long-term future uncertain.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast this morning, Tim Watson posed a potential format change to improve the program’s viewership.

“Would it still find an audience if they did the best of The Footy Show on a Thursday night up against The Front Bar?” Watson said.

“Would that find themselves a bigger audience?”

Former Footy Show host Garry Lyon’s response was: “I think it would find an audience … how much I don’t know.”

“You know what it’s like when you flashback … it may be only sustainable for one, two, three or four weeks.

“I think that would be the appeal, people would go: ‘That’s what it used to be like.’”
