Cricket could get "A-League like awakening" taking on footy season

2019-05-08T07:30+10:00

Cricket Australia yesterday released their schedule for the 2019-2020 summer and one of the most interesting aspects was international cricket going deep into May.

The Aussies will play two ODIs against New Zealand at the SCG on March 13 and 15, before playing in Tasmania on March 20.

SEN Breakfast co-host has labelled the schedule "the cricket creep".

“You know what this is? I think this is the battle of the sports and I’m calling this the cricket creep. They’re creeping into the footy season and surreptitiously take away a little bit of the footy time and get a little more cricket me-time,” he told SEN Breakfast.

Garry Lyon feels cricket could be in for a rude shock, getting so close to the AFL season.

“They may get an A-League-like awakening,” Lyon said.

“Don’t step into the AFL’s territory,” he added, tongue in cheek.

This year’s footy season kicked off on March 21st, but the 20th of March in 2020 will be a Friday and likely means cricket will take on the AFL directly.
