Cripps committed to rebuilding Blues

2019-05-09T09:35+10:00

It's been a tumultuous week for Carlton and its long-suffering fans, following Sunday's humiliating loss to North Melbourne.

So, hearing Blues skipper Patrick Cripps pledge his allegiance to the struggling club would have come as music to the ears of all concerned.

Remarkably, the star midfielder has been a part of just 19 wins from his 88 games.

But the Western Australian insists he is committed to ensuring the Blues return to the glory days of yesteryear.

"I'm from a pretty loyal family, and I never usually shy away from things when they get tough," Cripps told the Jock and Journo Podcast.

"I know once we get there, building something from the bottom up with some of your best mates is going to be pretty rewarding.

"If I left, say you go home and you go to the Eagles… they've just won a flag, and you (hypothetically speaking) win one in your first year, does it mean as much as building something from the ground up?

"I don’t think it would, so that's something that really drives me."

SEN Breakfast co-host Tim Watson praised Cripps for his loyalty.

"He gets it, doesn't he? I love the fact that he gets and understands what this game is all about – it's as much about the journey and the struggle as it is about anything else," Watson said.

"And for him to understand that, as a young man, that that win, if they get it, if they build it right, they get there and he's a part of it, that will complete his football career totally and utterly."

"It is one of the great things that I've heard a young player say in recent times."

Cripps last year signed a new contract, tying him to Carlton until the end of 2021, a full year before his previous deal was due to expire.
