Jarryd Roughead’s return to the VFL for the first time in nearly seven years had it all.
The Hawthorn forward returned to form with 17 disposals, seven marks and five goals in Box Hill’s thrilling draw with Footscray at the MCG.
Following the game, Roughead told Channel Seven that he was glad to contribute to the team.
“I haven’t played with any of these boys really so I have to fit into their system more than them fitting in with me,” he said.
“The fact that I was able to contribute with the boys today is obviously a positive.
“No-one else has kicked five at the MCG this weekend!”
Despite his five-goal haul, what caught everyone’s eye was a heartwarming moment where Roughead appeared to be coaching his opponent.
