Is Tim Kelly worth two first-round picks?

2019-05-13T15:44+10:00

Geelong star Tim Kelly’s stocks continue to rise thanks to a dazzling start to the 2019 season.

Kelly, 24, has swiftly put the disappointment of failing to secure a trade to West Coast in last year's trade period behind him, averaging 25.9 disposals and 5.4 tackles per game in his second year at AFL level.

The Cats are desperate to retain the out-of-contract midfielder while the Eagles and Fremantle are keen on luring the mature-age recruit back to Western Australia.

Three-time All-Australian Nick Dal Santo discussed Kelly’s worth and what he would sacrifice in order to land the gun on-baller.

“He’s not worth two first-round picks,” Dal Santo on SEN Afternoons.

“He’s definitely worth something juicy on the way back, no doubt, if he does get back to Perth at the end of this season.

“I don’t know how much more money he can add to his current value. I’d give a first and a second-round pick.”

Geelong coach Chris Scott told SEN’s Crunch Time in March that the club remained confident of keeping Kelly beyond this season.

“Anyone that thinks it’s a foregone conclusion that Tim Kelly is going to leave Geelong is mistaken,” Scott said.

“Our list management team will work really hard on getting a good result for the club.”
