Magpies swoop to steamroll wasteful Saints

2019-05-18T16:31+10:00

Collingwood has made it six straight wins after storming home to defeat St Kilda by 41 points at the MCG.

Leading by five points at three-quarter time, the Magpies slammed on six goals to two to overpower the Saints who will once again rue missed opportunities in front of goal.

Alan Richardson’s side had five more inside 50s – with 14 coming in a row in the second-quarter, but couldn’t capitalise on the scoreboard in what has become a concerning trend.

Even with the late outs of Darcy Moore and Jordan De Goey, the Pies got the job done in a clinical and professional manner.

Here’s everything you need to know!

The Talking Point: Varcoe reported for high bump

Collingwood veteran Travis Varcoe will come under scrutiny for a high bump on St Kilda youngster Ed Phillips.

Varcoe met Phillips with a careless front on bump, collecting his brother and Magpies midfielder Tom Phillips in the process.

The 31-year-old was placed on report with the Saints wingman successfully playing out the remaining three quarters after undergoing a series of concession tests.

A suspension would rule Varcoe out from wearing the club’s Indigenous jumper in Sir Doug Nicholls round next week.

Medical room: Langdon injured in warm-up

Collingwood’s Tom Langdon suffered a knee injury during the warm-up prior to start of the third quarter.

Langdon limped from the ground and sat out the remainder of the second-half with his right knee strapped.

The Pies will be sweating on the defender’s fitness ahead of next week’s match against Sydney.

What’s next?

Collingwood will look to make it seven straight wins when they meet the Swans at the SCG next Friday night. St Kilda host Carlton at Marvel Stadium next Sunday afternoon.
