Dangerfield hits back at Kane Cornes' comments

2019-05-20T10:40+10:00

Geelong star midfielder Patrick Dangerfield has hit back at SEN SA Breakfast host Kane Cornes.

Cornes took aim at the 29-year-old on Sunday, arguing that he needs to stop overplaying minor injuries.

Dangerfield departed GMHBA Stadium in his side’s 44-point win over the Bulldogs in crutches, but when approached by reporters today, the questions diverted away from the injury.

“There are some people in the industry that you pay attention to their commentary and there are some that you don’t. He is in the latter,” the Brownlow medallist told Fox Sports.

“Kane can say what he likes and he does. I think you get into a position though where you keep trotting down the same line and people start to dismiss your commentary.

“He is probably in that unfortunate position now where when he speaks people don’t really listen.

“There are some in the industry where you really value you their opinion and there are plenty of those and then there are others you can dismiss pretty quickly and you don’t lose any sleep over it.”

Cornes clarified his comments on SEN SA Breakfast on Monday morning.

“I did go on to say Patrick Dangerfield's one of the toughest players I’ve ever seen,” he said.

“When the ball is there, he’s like a bull in the China shop, he’s unbelievable in the how he attacks the footy.

“I just said it’s only one area of a career that’s pretty much without blemish that I think he needs to get rid of.”

Geelong coach Chris Scott said Dangerfield’s injury was “nothing dire” so the Cats will be hoping he can get up and play against the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.
