Leppitsch: The MRO can be "a bit of a chook lotto at times"

2019-05-21T09:50+10:00

Richmond assistant coach Justin Leppitsch says the decision-making from Match Review Officer Michael Christian can be confusing at times.

Tiges ruckman Ivan Soldo was offered a one-match ban for an elbow to head of Hawthorn’s James Worpel in their 36-point win on Sunday.

Leppitsch made note of other similar incidents that didn’t warrant a suspension, leading him to question the MRO.

“As you kow with these things at times, I think we all feel like it’s a bit of a chook lotto at times,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“You just don’t know what you’re going to get.

The backline coach also confirmed that Richmond were highly likely to appeal Soldo’s ban.

“I think we are (challenging) from my knowledge, from what I heard before I left work yesterday... (we’ll) see what the powerbrokers think,” he said.

“But they were all of the opinion in that point of time that if it does go that way, there’s enough evidence recently that guys that have done similar things got off so.

“We’ll go appeal it, we think there’s enough evidence there so we’ll see what they say.”

The Tigers will aim for three straight wins when they host Essendon for Dreamtime at the G’ on Saturday night.
