Co-captain Walker shouldn't be "immune to going back to the SANFL": Riewoldt

2019-05-27T09:40+10:00

Nick Riewoldt believes Adelaide forward Taylor Walker should not necessarily avoid going back to the SANFL just because he’s the co-captain of the club.

Walker failed to kick a goal while picking up just five kicks in the Crows’ 12-point loss against West Coast and has returned just 16 majors from 10 games this season.

After footage emerged of Walker appearing to pull away from a contest, Riewoldt questioned whether the 29-year-old deserved to remain in the senior line-up.

“I think just because you’re captain doesn’t mean you’re immune to going back to the SANFL,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“One thing that’s really important in a football club is integrity of selection.

“If other players are falling into the category form-wise and effort-wise that don’t meet the standards, well then everyone should be exposed to the same level of scrutiny and integrity in selecting the team.”

The Crows will aim to bounce back from their loss against the reigning premiers when they travel up to TIO Stadium to face Melbourne on Saturday.
