Former Blue backs Ratten return as senior coach

2019-06-03T19:47+10:00

Former Carlton forward Andrew Walker has thrown his support behind Brett Ratten making a dramatic return as Blues coach.

Ratten was sacked by Carlton after coaching the club from 2007-2012, before taking up an assistant role at Hawthorn where he was part of their three-peat of premierships between 2013-2015.

Walker, who played under both Ratten and Bolton during his time as a Blue, believes the current Saints assistant coach should be considered to replace the departed Bolton.

“They would have to look at him,” he told SEN’s Time On.

“He’s coached at senior level and had results; you can only go off those results. Our 2011 season was the most exciting brand of footy that I've played.

“That 2012 year we were really struggling with injuries towards the end of the year and we still managed to finish just outside the eight.

“I thought he was a great coach and great for developing young players.”

Ratten took Carlton to the 2011 Semi Finals and had the team early premiership favourites in 2012, before mounting injuries derailed the season, ultimately leading to his sacking.
