“I get quite down on myself”: Beams' difficulties in Collingwood return

2019-06-05T19:05+10:00

Collingwood star Dayne Beams has conceded it’s been a difficult start to his second stint at the club.

Beams, 29, has struggled for form since returning to the Magpies and will now undergo surgery on his troublesome hip, sidelining him for the next three months.

The All-Australian admits it hasn’t gone to plan from an on-field perspective in 2019.

“Life throws you different curve balls at times … it’s just life and you’ve got to deal with it,” Beams told SEN’s Time On.

“In terms of footy, it’s been a bit frustrating for me because I’d like to be performing better, there’s been some reasons as to why.

“I haven’t been able to perform at my best and as I would like to. I set really high expectations of myself and I get quite down on myself when I don’t reach those expectations, so in terms of the on-field it’s been quite difficult.”

Despite the injury blow, Beams is happy to be back in Victoria surrounded by family and friends.

“Off the field, which to me is the most important, it’s been the best move that I’ve made,” he said.

“I’m really enjoying being back in Melbourne around my family and friends.”

Beams re-joined the Magpies from Brisbane in a blockbuster deal that saw the Lions secure picks 18, 56 and a future first-round pick.
