The AFL have held meetings to discuss whether to permanently close Marvel Stadium’s roof during matches, according to SEN’s Time On host Sam McClure.
The decision to continually open the roof has drawn wide-spread criticism which peaked during Saturday afternoon's game between Carlton and Brisbane.
Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury and Brownlow Medallist Jimmy Bartel both voiced their disapproval of the roof being opened on sunny days, making the glare inside the venue a nightmare for players and broadcasters alike.
“Senior figures at the AFL have now finally decided that enough is enough,” McClure told SEN’s Time On.
“There are meetings going on this week to have Marvel Stadium’s roof permanently closed, for good. Never being opened again for an AFL game.
“The final straw was on Saturday for Carlton’s match against Brisbane. Players weren’t happy, Fox Footy were infuriated to say the least and it’s reached AFL House again.
“They had meetings on Monday and Tuesday, and it was concluded they will wait until the end of the year and decide what will happen from 2020 onwards.
With five 1:10pm matches remaining at Marvel Stadium this season, McClure says the Round 15 match between St Kilda and Richmond will determine whether the roof will remain forever closed.
“If it is a sunny day then and the roof is closed, you can take it to the bank that the roof will never open again,” he added.
