“I’d get him back in”: Former Docker calls for Bennell return

2019-06-17T18:08+10:00

Fremantle champion Paul Hasleby would like to see fit-again Harley Bennell recalled to the senior side following another encouraging performance in the WAFL.

Bennell, 26, booted two goals playing for Peel Thunder against South Fremantle over the weekend, backing up his 30 and 26-disposal performances over the last fortnight.

Ross Lyon’s side have won three games on the bounce after their 19-point win over Port Adelaide on Saturday, a result that saw them climb to sixth on the AFL ladder with a 7-5 win-loss record.

“A guy of the class of Harley Bennell, you would love him in the side,” Hasleby told SEN’s KB and The Doc.

“One thing the Dockers lack is that polish inside the forward 50; that extra bit of skill – Harley Bennell certainly gives you that.

“We’ll see what happens over the next couple of weeks, but if it was me, I’d get him back in.”

Bennell was taken with pick No.2 in the 2010 AFL Draft and hasn’t played at senior level since Round 23, 2017 after a spate of soft tissue injuries.
