Melbourne Stars targeting “biggest name” in world cricket

2019-06-19T13:33+10:00

The Melbourne Stars have revealed their bold plan to secure the signature of David Warner for the upcoming BBL campaign.

The Stars have made the Australian opener their number one target, a player they declared as the biggest name in world cricket.

Warner would be available for up to five matches plus finals due to his international commitments throughout the summer.

“We want him. It’s just a matter of whether he is available. We are holding a spot open for him,” Stars director of cricket Trent Woodhill told The Age.

“We definitely would like to get him with us. You want the best players playing at the MCG and there is no bigger name worldwide, including Virat Kohli, than David Warner.”

Warner, 32, top-scored in this year’s IPL tournament with 692 runs 69.20 at a strike rate of 143.86.

The left-hander is the fifth highest run-scorer at the ICC Cricket World Cup with 281 runs at 70.25 with a highest score of 107 in Australia's win over Pakistan.
