Nick Dal Santo has called for “significant” changes at St Kilda after their hammering to Brisbane on Saturday.
The Saints were dismantled by the Lions either side of half-time, trailing by as much as 76 points early in the final quarter.
Dal Santo says under-performing midfielder Jack Newnes needs a spell in the VFL after he recorded just one kick in the 56-point mauling.
Newnes, 26, has played 122 consecutive games for the Saints since Round 1, 2014.
“I would like to see some significant changes. My only concern is I don’t know if they have the players to do it,” Dal Santo told AFL Nation.
“I think Jack Newnes might need a refresh in the seconds.
“Not enough for mine if you’re going to play on the wing and you can base it on possessions alone.”
Newnes, who was left out of the club's leadership group, is contracted to St Kilda until the end of this year.
