Longmire’s manager confirms North Melbourne interest

2019-06-25T08:49+10:00

John Longmire’s manager Liam Pickering has confirmed he has been contacted by North Melbourne regarding possibly coaching the club next season.

The Sydney coach has been linked with the vacant Kangaroos job since Brad Scott departed Arden Street in May.

Longmire, who is contracted to the Swans until the end of 2020, has remained coy amid speculation of an impending multi-million dollar Roos offer.

“I’ve had a call from North,” Pickering told SEN Breakfast.

“I’m not really that surprised that I’ve had a discussion. I thought it would come and I got a phone call from their president.

“I did have a discussion with Benny (Buckley).”

Pickering added: “He is an ex-teammate of mine, I know him pretty well.

“That's not a real surprise. Apart form that, discussions with Sydney where it's all going good.”

Longmire is a 200-game player at North Melbourne and was part of the club’s 1999 premiership winning side.

The 48-year-old is Sydney’s longest serving coach and masterminded their 2012 premiership triumph.
