“Unusual” Stringer injury can take “long time to heal”

2019-06-25T09:47+10:00

Sam Edmund’s mail suggests that Jake Stringer could be sidelined for at least a few weeks.

The Essendon forward missed last round’s loss to West Coast after suffering a lower leg injury against Hawthorn in Round 13.

Bombers coach John Worsfold said at a press conference on Monday that the club is still unsure about the severity of the issue.

“Unlikely for this week,” he said regarding Stringer’s availability for Thursday night’s meeting with GWS.

“It’s a bit of an unknown injury of how it’s going to progress. It’s just the soreness and how quickly that soreness gets out and gets to where he can play a full game of footy.”

But SEN regular and Herald Sun journalist Edmund believes Stringer could be out for a while longer such is the nature of his problem.

“We might not see Jake Stringer for a while,” he said on SEN Breakfast.

“John Worsfold said the forward was in doubt for this week and he had no idea how long it would take for Stringer to have no soreness.

“There was no break on the scan but the way it was put to me was that he’d ruptured the tibia/fibula capsule, which is pretty unusual and can take a long time to heal.

“That’s why 'Woosha' said they’ve got no idea because it depends on the human, obviously.

“So it could be a few weeks. He’s obviously missed last week, won’t play this week against GWS on Thursday, and might miss a little bit more.

“Fingers crossed for him.”
