Young Lion one of the best defenders I’ve played with: Hodge

2019-06-27T15:50+10:00

Luke Hodge has lavished praise on Brisbane vice-captain Harris Andrews, declaring him one of the best defenders he has played with.

Harris, 22, has emerged as one of the premier key defenders in the competition after being selected by the Lions with pick 61 in the 2014 draft.

Hodge, a four-time premiership player with Hawthorn who came out of retirement to join Brisbane in October 2017, has been blown away by the young Lion.

“Harris Andrews is as good a centre half back as I’ve played with,” Hodge told SEN Breakfast.

“Just as far as being able to intercept mark, understand when to spoil and his communication for a 22-year-old.

“He’s pretty much got the full package as far as a developing player coming through.

“He’s got a bit of check about him as well; he is happy to take the mickey out of himself around the footy club. As a vice-captain at 22 he has been so impressive.”

Brisbane host Melbourne at the Gabba on Sunday.
