Carlton legend Greg Williams praises "amazing" Sam Walsh

2019-07-02T12:00+10:00

Carlton great Greg ‘Diesel’ Williams has been blown away by youngster Sam Walsh’s dedication to training.

Williams spends two days a week at the Blues, coaching the likes of skipper Patrick Cripps and midfielder Paddy Dow.

In his time at the club, Williams has been given an inside look at the work rate of Walsh, and he couldn’t be more impressed.

“He’s pretty amazing,” he told SEN Mornings.

“I don’t think I see many players who have trained like him at his age.

“He’s just amazing how hard he’s trained.

“He wants to learn so much, he doesn’t stop asking questions. Everyone here loves him.

“He’s just an amazing young player and he’s got a serious career ahead of him.”

Walsh’s training habits relate to none other than the dual Brownlow medallist himself.

In his quest to be the best player he could be, Williams went to the extreme to perfect his game.

"I trained for 14 years to get 10 possessions a quarter, that was my goal, every week, every training session,” he said.

“The reason I was practicing was to get myself fit enough, skilful enough, and practice to get 10 a quarter.”

After defeating Fremantle by four points at Optus Stadium in Round 15, the Blues will hope to make it two from two when they take on Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.
