Hinkley “coaching at the top of his game”: Koch

2019-07-05T09:50+10:00

Port Adelaide president David Koch has unequivocally backed coach Ken Hinkley following a board meeting last week.

It’s crunch time for the Power with crucial games against rivals Adelaide, Brisbane and Richmond on the horizon that will determine their finals fate.

Hinkley described Port as an “unreliable” and “untrustworthy” team after their shock loss to the Western Bulldogs last week, continuing what has been a campaign riddled with inconsistency.

“I think he is coaching at the top of his game,” Koch told SEN SA Breakfast.

“Last Saturday night, the most frustrating thing was that we won virtually every stat … we won every contested possession – turnovers are killing us.

“There are just one or two areas that we need to click to turn it around. At the board meeting last week, Ken gave us a stunning presentation all based on stats, non of this objected stuff.

“Let’s see the proof and he went through it, and again this is the frustrating bit, there are just a couple of areas to improve on and we’re going well.”

Port Adelaide haven’t played finals since 2017 and lost six of their last seven games to crash out of finals contention last season.

Hinkley is contracted to Port until the end of 2021.
