Dal Santo recalls Lyon's 'photographic' memory

2019-07-12T10:50+10:00

Ahead of Ross Lyon's 300th game as an AFL coach, Nick Dal Santo has reminisced on what he describes as Lyon’s ‘photographic memory’.

Former St Kilda star Dal Santo explained that his old coach has an amazing knack of being able to pick out a particular player and recount every single part of a game off the top of his head.

On this occasion, Lyon had former Saint Jason Blake in the gun during his tenure at St Kilda.

“He has this amazing ability to memorise moments in time,” Dal Santo said on SEN Breakfast.

“Blake kicked it into the man on the mark during a game in 2007.

“He did it again in 2009 and Ross said to him ‘You haven’t learnt your lesson have you?

“And you look at him with a blank face and say, ‘When have I done this before?’

“‘2007, Round 17, third quarter, 15-minute mark. You haven’t learnt to get back off the mark!’

“Everyone's got this bewildered look on their face going, ‘I can’t even remember what I did yesterday or what I’m having for dinner. How can he recall things from two and a half years ago?’

“He has a fantastic mind.”

Fremantle's clash with Hawthorn in Tasmania tomorrow is Lyon's 300th game as coach, after he oversaw 121 matches with the Saints.
