Despite two consecutive losses over 90 points, Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew is adamant that a priority pick is not the solution to fixing the Suns’ woes.
Earlier in the week, Gold Coast chairman Tony Cochrane confirmed that the Suns would request a priority pick after failing to finish any higher than 12th on the ladder since their inception in 2011.
Just seven days after losing to Richmond by 92 points, the Suns were thumped again, this time by Adelaide, who ran out 95-point winners at Metricon Stadium last night.
The loss is Gold Coast’s 12th straight, but Dew says another high-end pick won’t do the side any good.
"It's not the answer," Dew said in his post-match press conference, repeating himself three times.
"The priority pick is not the answer, flat out.
"Like every other club you've got to work as hard as you can, you've got to improve your list through draft and trade, that's the answer.
"By and large through the season we've shown development and improvement. The challenge is to not let these two weeks define us."
"The first 15 weeks as a footy club, on-field we made gains and started to stand for something... the last two weeks we've certainly lost our way.
"The boys have clearly lost their confidence.
"We didn't absorb anything tonight and that's the disappointing part."
Another disappointing part for Dew was seeing the Crows’ coaches box having a laugh in the final term of the game.
He says although it was hard to watch, he sees it as a symbol of where the club is at.
"Look at the Crows' coach's box in the last quarter," Dew said.
"They laughed in the last quarter, we've got to live with that.
"That stings, it's got to sting.
"That's where we're at. That's what they think of us."
The Suns' last win came against Carlton in Round 4, so when they face the Blues on Saturday at Marvel Stadium, they'll be hoping for a repeated effort to break the 12-game losing streak.
