Young Carlton ruckman Tom De Koning has had a big afternoon in the VFL and continues to show why the club is so excited about him.
The 19-year-old won 29 hit-outs, gathered 17 disposals, had eight inside 50s, took seven marks and laid four tackles in the club’s four-point win over Port Melbourne.
Many at Carlton believe De Koning is the eventual successor to Matthew Kreuzer in the ruck, but he has also shown the ability to play key forward, meaning we could see him at senior level at this year potentially.
Small forward turned midfielder Alex Fasolo finished with 19 disposals and a goal for the Blues, while mid-season rookie pick up Josh Deluca also gathered 19.
A goal after the siren from the Northern Blues’ Jean-Luc Velissaris gave the side a huge win and sees them on the edge of the VFL top eight.
Jarrod Garlett has been moved back into the forward line in recent weeks to good affect and he kicked two himself.
Former St Kilda midfielder Eli Templeton was best on ground for Port Melbourne, picking up 38 disposals, 10 inside 50s, nine rebound 50s, eight marks and a goal.
About 30m, no great angle but his nerves were jangling. ‘This is the stuff dreams are made of,’ he said. Blues’ first win over Port in 10 years
