Brisbane sits third on the ladder after 17 rounds of footy and have now beaten GWS and Port Adelaide away from home in successive weeks.
They’re arguably the most in form team in the competition with six weeks left in the season and Garry Lyon continues to say they can win the flag, despite no finals experience.
“This is the question of the round: Why not Brisbane?” he told SEN Breakfast.
“They’re third on the ladder. They’re equal second with Collingwood, they’ve taken all before them, they’re as hard to beat on their home deck as any side, why not Brisbane?
“I asked this in about Round 8 of Jonathan Brown and he wanted to whack me behind the ear.”
Nick Riewoldt is also buying into the Lions, saying their style of footy will hold up when it matters.
“Of course they can (win the flag),” Riewoldt said when asked.
“The only perceived logical reason you could give (for them not winning the flag) is their inexperience, but who cares.
“Should it really matter? It probably shouldn’t. They’ve put themselves in the mix.
“Their brand will stack up in finals. We spoke about the Giants yesterday and how they don’t have layers to their game that protects them when they’re not in great form, Brisbane has got that.
“They’ve got this youthful enthusiasm that’s on display every time they play. They’re in the mix.”
The Lions return to the Gabba on Saturday night to take on an in form North Melbourne side.
