The "subtle" changes Teague has made at Carlton

2019-07-15T08:22+10:00

Under David Teague, Carlton has won three of its last five games, including two on the road and one over the third-placed Lions.

Their two losses have been by under a goal, where they have kicked over 100 points.

Nick Riewoldt believes Teague has made some slight alterations since taking over from Brendon Bolton, particularly in the midfield.

“He’s made some subtle changes, David Teague,” Riewoldt told SEN Breakfast.

“So he’s got more of the old guard around the ball. So Ed Curnow on ball, Marc Murphy on ball, they’re the bigger bodies.

“The great frustration for Carlton people was that they couldn’t maximise what was perceived to be great tools in front of them (their key forwards), that’s been less of an issue.

“So Harry McKay has looked better when he’s been up there, clearly Charlie Curnow has had some better games.

“There’s some really good signs for the Blues.”

Carlton defender Liam Jones has put his support behind Teague landing the job permanently beyond 2019.

“I think it would be good (if Teague got the job),” Jones told SEN Breakfast.

“I think the club’s obviously doing its due diligence, but I certainly don’t think Teague’s put a foot wrong and we’re all really enjoying playing under him, we’ve had some good results and some close losses, we’re starting to play some good footy.

“The club is more upbeat, guys are getting more confidence, obviously we’re not looking at finals, but how much energy is being brought to training and games, it’s really good place to be at the moment.”
