Tigers continue winning ways while GWS suffers Giant blow

2019-07-14T15:50+10:00

Richmond has secured its third straight win with a 27-point victory over GWS at the MCG in dreary conditions.

The Tigers kicked the first four goals of the game before the Giants outscored them in the second term with four majors of their own.

While Richmond never lost the lead, the Giants lost one of their star players in Stephen Coniglio, who appears to have suffered a suspected knee injury.

Here’s everything you need to know!

The Talking Point: GWS' injuries

GWS coach Leon Cameron has already had plenty of work to do this season with injuries to stars including Toby Greene and Josh Kelly.

He could be facing a whole new challenge in the run home, with star midfielder Stephen Coniglio injuring his knee early in the first quarter.

Kelly also sat out today's match with a calf injury, which will sideline him for up to a month.

Lachie Whitfield pulled up sore late in the third quarter after copping a knock to the ribs, but was able to front up for the final term.

He had just returned from a broken collarbone.

The Medical Room: Stephen Coniglio

GWS star Coniglio appears to have sustained a fresh knee injury against Richmond.

Coniglio landed awkwardly during a contest and needed assistance from the trainers while getting off the ground.

He sustained the injury to his left knee, which was heavily strapped prior to the game.

Coniglio took no further part in the game, requiring GWS to reshuffle early in the contest.

What’s next?

Richmond will aim to secure its fourth straight win when it hosts Port Adelaide at the MCG next Saturday. This is the second of seven straight games at the MCG for the Tigers.

GWS has a huge game against Collingwood at GIANTS Stadium next Saturday. They could be without star man Coniglio for the clash while Pies captain Scott Pendlebury is expected to be sidelined for the game with a broken finger.
