Saints will go through "rigorous" process to find new coach: Finnis

2019-07-16T18:52+10:00

St Kilda CEO Matt Finnis has strongly denied the idea that his club already has a good idea of who Alan Richardson’s replacement will be.

Many have linked former North Melbourne coach Brad Scott to the role after Richardson was sacked today, but Finnis said the Saints will go through a lengthy search.

“The idea that’s there’s been some pre-conceived idea to hand the coaching role to somebody else or that someone’s going to have the inside running, it’s just inconceivable,” he told Sportsday.

“It just needs to be completely disregarded. This is such a critical decision for us in terms of what our ambitions are for our footy club.

“There will be a process here which will be incredibly thorough and rigorous and we’ll get the right person who will lead us forward.

“Anything beyond that is nonsense and noise.”

Former Carlton coach Brett Ratten will take over as coach for the remainder of the season.
