The AFL Umpiring Department has admitted that Brisbane ruckman Oscar McInerney should not have been awarded a free kick in the Lions’ 12-point win over North Melbourne last night.
Roos defender Scott Thompson conceded a push-out free kick against McInerney 20 metres out from Brisbane’s goal, resulting in what ended up being the match-winning goal.
The AFL Umpiring Department released a statement this morning admitting the error.
“The AFL Umpiring Department advises the free kick awarded to Brisbane Lions’ Oscar McInerney against North Melbourne’s Scott Thompson in the fourth quarter of last night’s match at The Gabba was incorrect.”
