Bombers coach comments on Draper link to St Kilda

2019-07-23T08:42+10:00

Reports swirled earlier in the season surrounding Essendon youngster Sam Draper, who has been heavily linked to St Kilda.

The untried ruckman has reportedly been offered $1.7 million by the Saints, but Essendon coach John Worsfold believes the Bombers will keep him.

“Yeah I’m really confident (that we’ll be able to keep him),” Worsfold told SEN Breakfast.

“Those clubs have them on their radar, we have him definitely on our radar.

“We think he could be a wonderful well and truly 200-game ruckman for the Essendon Football Club and have a great career.

“The development the guys have put into him so far has been awesome and he gets the credit for the work ethic he’s got, he’s a great young kid with a great attitude and he’s lapped up the program the boys have put in place for him.

“He’s had the luxury of having Matthew Leuenberger and Tom Bellchambers who have really put a lot of work into helping Sam understand the game because they want to see him become a great ruckman of this game."

Draper tore his ACL earlier in the year and has been ruled out for the 2019 season.
