“Too much help”: Gold Coast’s reported priority pick demands questioned

2019-07-24T14:25+10:00

Gold Coast will reportedly request for two priority picks in a package deal when they meet with the AFL Commission.

According to the Herald Sun, the Suns will ask for highly rated draft prospects Matthew Rowell and Noah Anderson, who are both understood to be open to joining the expansion club.

The Vic Metro and Oakleigh Chargers duo are both tipped to go at one and two in the upcoming National Draft and share a close friendship - something Gold Coast see as a way of retaining the pair long-term.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast, former Essendon captain Tim Watson says Gold Coast are asking for too much assistance and they should use Brisbane as a reference point in creating a successful rebuild.

“Of course it’s going to help them, I think it’s too much help though,” Watson said.

“I think their priority picks should come at the beginning of the second round, not at the beginning of the first round.

“The Gold Coast Suns and the AFL have to do exactly what the Brisbane Lions did, they’ve got to get the right people there in their organisation, so they build a club – a great club that players want to be part of.”

Gold Coast sit last on the AFL ladder and have lost 13 consecutive matches.
