Garry Lyon's ladder predictor spat out something very unexpected

2019-07-29T07:46+10:00

With a month to go in the season, and the teams fighting for eighth spot constantly tripping over themselves, anything can happen. Even the 16th-placed Carlton could still mathematically make finals.

Former Melbourne captain Garry Lyon went through the ladder predictor and was shocked to see St Kilda sitting in eighth place after Round 23.

“Honestly, I’ve done the ladder predictor, I had a go and tipped the next four rounds basically,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“Then at the end I’ve had a look at it and St Kilda was eighth.

“I wouldn’t go and put your house on it, I just did it for fun, but they’re a chance!”

The Saints play the eighth-placed Crows in Adelaide on Saturday night.

They then face Fremantle at Marvel Stadium, Carlton at the MCG, before a date against Sydney at the SCG.

Former St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt said his old club had found a spark.

“They look like they’re playing with a real spirit and enthusiasm at the moment and they’ve got a good run home,” he said.

The Saints outlasted Melbourne on Saturday night, kicking away late to win by 19 points.

It’s their second consecutive win under caretaker coach Brett Ratten.
